INDIANA
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
RICHMOND
DOUBLE HEADER Race
Report..........Rounds 2 and 3
I pulled in around 11 am after driving thru rain the
whole way. Figured it was going to be another rain out
for Indiana BMX. At noon the radar on my phone showed
that the rain had passed, the second front broke up
and that we might have a chance. When you walked on
the track it was very hard, but had some water
standing and was kinda slick. The track crew broke out
the 4 wheelers and the drags and started blasting
around in an effort to dry things up and it worked out
great. About the time the crew started rolling, the
sun broke out, the wind picked up and things really
took shape.
Moto count was low, but with all the rainouts,
reschedules, gas prices, and drama, it was around what
I expected in comparison to the regionals that have
been in our area. 15 motos for round 1 and 9 motos for
round 2. We averaged 30 motos last year when gas was
$2 a gallon. Sportsmanship award has to go to
Savannah Lahr. She only had a few girls to race and
none were even close to her age. But at the finish
line, she would stop, high five the little girls and
then hang out and talk about the racing with them. She
is a great kid and Dad should be proud.
Determination award goes to the 5 rookie class.
There was only 2, and the little guy in 2nd never got
off the seat, but he never quit pedaling either. In
the last straight the little seat riding kid would
reel in the 1st place guy and they were always
battling side by side at the line. It was AWESOME!!
I need to give huge props to some people. Brad and Jay
Bales, James Eversole, Ralph Reynolds, and Lee McBride
busted their butts for us so that we could run our
races on Saturday. Becky Bales, and Mrs McBride
(sorry, dont know 1st name) sweated their tails off in
the concession stand and were always smiling when
anyone approached. Kirby also busted his butt to give
us a great place to race and it showed. The track was
in great shape. Nice and smooth. They installed some
drainage and new stone areas a week or so before to
keep us out of the mud. Also want to thank the
volunteers that helped score and corner marshal
including my wife Darcy. If I missed anyone, I apologize.
The atmosphere was great. During the intermission for
both races, before the mains we did a 50/50 raffle
drawing for money, a Kuwahara frame, Sun wheels, and
some other swag. The crowd was all joking and Dan
Rumple is a great emcee on top of being a great
announcer. Special thanks goes to the two
girls that make me look really good as the Commish.
Kari Rumple and Wendy Sabatini. Although
the rider count was not what I had hoped, everyone put
all the negative BS that could have permiated the race
aside and we all had a great time. I would have to
rate this as one of the most enjoyable races I have
attended in quite some time. This race renewed
my enthusiasm for BMX in general and reminded me of
why I love this stuff. It really was that good.
See everyone the 26th of July in Warsaw.

REVISED
2008 INDIANA STATE
QUALIFIER
SCHEDULE
I
am sure at this point, everyone knows that Mother
Nature has not been very friendly to Indiana BMX and
has caused cancellation of 75% of the scheduled
races so far. I can remember if it
rained at the indoor or not, but I am guessing
yes......
After
making a bad judgment call at Richmond stating we
were doing a 1 race "finals only" format,
I have got a small hint that maybe some don't
exactly think that is a good idea, or even within
the guidelines set forth by the mother ship which is
the NBL .
So
I have been working very hard with a number of
people to rectify the situation and come up with a
schedule that will work best for everyone still
interested in running the series and getting that
highly coveted Indiana State Champion number plate
and swag bag. Items in the bag include a
jersey, hoodie, and entry to the Presidents Cup,
which by the way is slated for Virginia come late
December.
Please
note, all our races are open, which means anyone can
race any stop including the final. You must
STILL have two qualifiers, plus the final to be eligible
for an Indiana award.
